From El Madrigal to Stade De France, here come the Gunners! As expected by yours truly, after leading by a goal to nil at half time from Highbury, Arsenal fired blanks or the guns weren’t all that smoking. Based on ESPN Soccernet, we fired a miserly 5 shots (1 on goal) as opposed to 13 torpedoes from the Yellow Submarines (5 on target). Heck, the Spaniards even got a penalty at the 88th minute, which our Germany no. 1 goalkeeper (he so deserves it. Eat your heart out, Kahn) parried superbly. Wish I could’ve seen the anguished look on Riquelme & the post match Gunners celebration.
Next stop: Paris on 17 May 2006. Hopefully, we can blow away the opposition & claim the 1 prize that has eluded Arsenal thus far. My guess for the final game is Arsenal versus Barcelona, considering the 1 goal lead Barca has plus they are playing at Nou Camp tomorrow. But honestly, I’ve no preference as both Barca & AC Milan are formidable opponents.
It’ll be a fairy tale ending for Arsenal this season to win the Champions League & a fitting farewell to my favourite Gunner, Dennis Bergkamp who is retiring. Also, we can keep on saying smugly "Tottenham who?" :D
Till later, live long & prosper.
